I've been in full-time ministry for 33 years, 22 as a pastor. I seldom get away or have time off. Vacation? Forget it. Not possible. Besides, a good shepherd lays his life down for his sheep. He/she is "with them" every day, every night, without a break. I do carry the responsiblity that I must be close by and never out of touch...Oh how I wish I could have a real sabbatical. I envy some of my fellow ministers who have the opportunity to take time off, often paid for by their church or denomination...Maybe this will be the year that I can get some needed rest and rebuilding of my own soul...My DMin coursework has been my oasis! _________________ Mike McCrum |
