In many ways this is the most challenging and impactful reflection of them all. The imagery of Abraham, Jesus while on earth, Paul and even God as content tent dwellers causes me to pause and reflect. I can’t help but wonder why today so many followers of Jesus, myself included, give in to the tendency to place our identity on being comfortable here at the instead of our, “permanent home, headed for the tent of God where we will dwell forever (265).â€
But I also find great comfort here too. My Shepherd chooses to dwell in tents among his sheep. He cares for me nearby, moving with me, instead of from an unattainable place far away. He calls me by name and points me to my permanent tent dwelling place or as my favorite rock star theologian Bono claims in the song “Walk On,†“a place that has to be believed to be seen.†_________________ Chris Holder |
