The Shepherd Messiah…His Followers
One thing about God he never gave up on mankind his creation. In spite of our frailty as humans He God remains committed in having us partner with him in his redemptive plan. The team of shepherding has made its way into the Gospels and has become a part of Jesus Christ way of ministering to humankind. It was the shepherds to whom the angles came and announced the birth of our Lord and Saviour. They were keeping watch over their flock while the Chief Shepherd’s arrival was happening in Bethlehem.
Laniak description of Mark’s account of Jesus as a shepherd in the wilderness comes from Jesus time spent in the wilderness after his baptism. Mark’s connection with the scriptures of the Old Testament serves as a bridge connecting the reader with the fulfillment of the prophecies of Old and the arrival of Shepherd/Messiah.
The many faces of Jesus ministry resulted in each writer of the gospel to focus on a particular feature. Matthew describes Him to be a compassionate Shepherd/King who is in search of the lost sheep of the house of Israel, a judge and one that will die for his people. Luke description is one that all disciples who watch over God’s people continue to proclaim. That Jesus is a seeking and saving shepherd. The apostle John again brings back the act of a second exodus and how Jesus Christ himself is that Passover lamb.
The message given to Peter “feed my sheep/Lambs is one that sends a resounding message to us as pastors that the GOOD SHEPHERD has seen it fit to engage us in such a divine assignment. We are privilege to have been called by Creator God to partner with him.
