The shepherd after God’s own heart leads with “knowledge and understanding�; one who cares for the sheep; administers justice. Of the three types of leaders that God ordained for the OT, prophet, priest and king, they all failed and thus the people failed and Judah and Israel lost everything and were taken into captivity. Today we have the same situation in our country where many churches are lead by people who are simply vassals for politicians. The political leaders will not administer justice but allow the wicked to oppress the weak. And the country is looking more like the book of Judges everyday where everyone does what is right in their own sight. The very destruction that awaited the children of Israel awaits our country unless the church returns to serving God and not man as their first love. In Jeremiah, God abhors those who abuse power and promises to push the reset but on Israel just as one resets a breaker switch.
The shepherds who are currently trading the gospel for the trinkets of this world will be held accountable for leading so many astray and the stakes are eternal life or eternal death. We must have the courage of our convictions to seek and preach holiness and righteousness as our God is righteous as well as reconciliation and love.
