Power and authority

by jtotire » Sat Nov 02, 2019 11:29 am

The author brings together the theme of sacrifice and authority very clearly, which is mentioned throughout the book. Jesus Christ is both sacrificial lamb and Shepherd. Those in leadership, called pastors, are called to imitate Jesus Christ by leading and sacrificing their lives for others. A shepherd must be ready to do anything the sheep need.

Finally, author is talking about the ruling shepherd. The messianic King and conquering Lion. The pastoral image for a variety of leadership roles in different contexts (prophet, priest, king, church leader). Author concluded by saying any person in ‘pastoral’ ministry is heir to a remarkable heritage that stretches back four thousand years. I can reflect on my father’s life and his calling, commitment and sacrifice in order to protect the sheep. He carved a good role model for younger generation to carry the shepherding ministry under-shepherding.
