It is very easy to miss the real world "out there" when you live in an insulated, isolated and disconnected system. We forget how bad things are "out there". Sure we have our share of brokenness within the walls of the church, but I don't think we realize the degree of hopelessness and addiction and slavery that is rampant in our world. The world magically puts a spin on it's own condition, dressing it up with style, plastic smiles, gadgets, cars and houses. Ask any physician, family lawyer or police offer about what s/he sees on any given day and our illusions about the brokenness "out there" will be quickly shattered. Sin abounds and hearts are enslaved. This degree of need may be under the radar as it concerns the church, but as it concerns the gaze of God, it is under His rod.
The rod of God that speaks comfort, security, and law waits to meet a needy world. Jesus came not for the healthy, but for the sick. The Kingdom comes as the grace of God is lived out and given out in our lives beyond the walls.
