Following as the Lord Leads

This chapter was a wonderful exhortation to each of us to employ all three methods of leading in our leadership. Jesus is our perfect example: sometimes leading us tenderly by our side, sometimes straightforward, ahead of us, and sometimes pushing us beyond what we thought we were capable of, from behind, driving us on. I think I have experienced all three as his follower. And he expects me to offer all three methods to any who I lead. I must be brave enough to forge ahead, tender enough to come alongside, concerned and motivated enough to draw up behind and push forward through dangerous and rough times, times when the 'flock' might like to stop but needs to keep moving. I love the way the chapter ends, "Followership is the beginning - and end - of effective leadership." I need to be a diligent follower as the Lord leads me in each of these ways.
