Huddled together

It was not the words of this devotion that struck me first - it was that photograph. Looking at the picture of three sheep huddled on the ground next to one another, for all the world looking like they were smiling - if that is even possible for sheep - evoked such an immediate image in my mind of what a healthy small group feels like.
A good shepherd gives comfort directly to his sheep, but the sheep also need to draw comfort from one another. They can do that best when a capable shepherd has met their needs in ways they could not do for one another. His presence and the safe environment he carves out for them allows them to huddle in safe and quiet rest with one another.
