Bringing them home

Post by dcyprian »

Scattered sheep. This is what happened at my former church when the dark actions of the shepherd were made known to the entire city. The sheep scattered. Hurt and disillusioned by the moral failure of an admired leader.

As many were left wandering and looking for a safe landing - at the same time exercising extreme caution because of the recent past - they did not have a place to call home. Then God in His infinite wisdom, called a new shepherd to gather the flock.

I have seen first hand how God will gather those that are dispersed. How He will look for those that may have wandered away either by "choice or circumstances." How he will call a first time pastor/shepherd to lead a new congregation. How He never forsakes us or leaves us. He will find someone to bring the homeless home. Such love!!

Dr. Laniak correctly points out, however, that the sheep can be in our care, but scatter seeking pleasure "over one hill or another." By letting the mind wander, there is the risk of wandering off. We must be diligent in herding the sheep and when one goes astray, bring them back home.
