Loving and Just

As our denomination was developing in the 19th century, the mission of proclaiming Christ and His second coming inspired our leaders to establish a publishing ministry. It prospered...a little too much. The mission got clouded by interest in the bottom line.

One humble woman sounded an alarm. The managers, she said, must pay fair wages, not skimming so much for themselves, and also pay royalties to authors. Her warnings were ignored. The house took whatever work they could get, regardless of content. Power-hungry men consolidated the work all under one roof instead of spreading it to other countries, like they were called to (Mt. 28:19).

The other Lion roared. The large office burned to the ground on Dec. 30, 1902.

It was a powerful wake-up call. Thank God, the Lion of the tribe of Judah stands ready to protect us from ourselves even if it requires extreme measures.
