Leaders face the difficult challenge of turning away not only the attacks on themselves but also equipping those who they lead with the tools to do the same. Today's society is nothing less than the devil's playground and one just needs to turn on the television to see how far things have declined and what is now considered acceptable. I have three small children and I have to be vigilant about whatever comes on our television even with a channel like the Cartoon Network. We are bombarded with sexuality, inappropriate language and materiality at every turn. For some of us this is akin to being dropped into the lion's den much like Daniel. While Daniel faced literal lions, we all face lions in different forms every step of everyday. The question is how are we going to react to these attacks. Are we going to be like David and face them head on and with courage or are we going to shy away from them because it may cause too much of a stir to stand up for our faith? As leaders and shepherds we must lead by example and let people see us walk the walk not just talk the talk. It is not an easy task to be sure but let us never forget the shepherd who faced the lions head on and died on the cross for our sins.
