A slow and winding journey

The opening line to Lost and Found grabbed my attention, "There are one billion sheep in the world, but each one matters to a shepherd somewhere." Oh, how much more do we matter to the Heavenly Father. Will my heart for the lost ones ever come close to His?
My heart has been crushed in the past as I wondered if I could persevere with those who are lost near home -my lambs that I have poured into, loved and cared for, nourished and protected, yet spurn my overtures and my Lord? I have been grieved for my close friends who have suffered from their own lost sheep. Oh yes, they are known by name. And our Divine Shepherd knows their path and grieves with me and with them. But a good shepherd keeps on the trail, no matter how long and winding and arduous.
Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.
