Providing for sheep

This section reminds me how pitiful sheep are. They rely 100% on the Shepherd for all their needs: food, water, shelter, healthcare, etc. It seems to me many Americans chafe under the thought of such reliance or provision. We prefer the "pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps" models, and "God helps those who help themselves" mottos. Perhaps this metaphor teaches us that not only are we actually 100% reliant on God, but as faith leaders, we should be willing to go to great lengths to care for others. There is no shame in needing help from the Shepherd.
