Not so easy to recognize wolves

Some wolves are very easy to recognize. They announce it verbally. You can tell from their public intentions and what they believe in publicly. Those are the easy ones. But what if you have ones that have fruits of a believer? One who does cause a lot of damage but yet they can be considered a "work in progress" type of person?

I know that a lot of leaders in the church gain position in the church by simply being "clean" on the outside. They have good jobs and well behaving children. They know enough Bible as to not be considered a false preacher. However they live a very legalistic lifestyle even though they are able to articulate the gospel. Their life speaks of salvation by works and performance but they love to teach about the gospel to feel elevated above other people. This is very difficult to detect. Even harder to call out without support from other believers. What do you do with these types of people in leadership roles?
