Feasting on God’s Word

Post by Mackennon »

It is said, that feeding is the only way to secure healthy production. Without it, there is less milk and fibre, and fewer healthy births. This statement can be associated with the Shephard nurturing of the sheep. It is also a statement that is visible in the Pastorate care and nourishing of believers with God’s word. In the context of the Pastorate, it is important that the Word of God is imbedded in our lives. We feed on the Word of God to show ourselves approved for God’s work in our lives. To go where He wants us to go and to do what He wants us to do. If we fail to feed on the Word of God, we miss critical instructions and teachings to secure healthy production. Feeding the flock requires action, being a doer of the word. When we teach the Word of God it is like preparing a meal. You must first know who you are cooking for and prepare the meal accordingly. You cannot prepare steak for infants, nor does it make sense to feed adults milk. The challenge in preaching is the fact that the congregation is filled with followers of all different spiritual levels. We must prepare the meal of God’s word that is filling for all the flock. The question is asked: What do we feed those we serve? Are they getting frequent meals rich in nutrition, or is it old and trivial stuff?
