God wanted a king like shepherd and David was the best suitable king to that stipulation as a human. And the kingship that was always imperfect in human history was fully revealed through Jesus, a perfect Davidic shepherd. Furthermore, the author says that the Davidic kingship of Jesus is best expressed through his self-sacrifice. And this Jesus’ revelation has become the clearest identity for his disciples. Every people who regards himself or herself as Jesus’ disciple should go after the self-sacrificial way of Jesus.
